Each 10,000 pound gear is believed to come from an Erie Canal bridge.
The large steel planters on the patio were mining
wagons and the orange beams supporting the canopy are from a New England Bridge.
Many steel artifacts throughout the restaurant were collected for many years from a scrap steel yard in
Rutland, Vermont.
The lamps throughout the restaurant are powered by a bank of batteries located on the center wall above the bar. These deep cycle batteries are charged by solar panels located on our roof and supply a 12 volt electric system which is transmitted on the bare
copper wires visible throughout the restaurant.
Where ever possible we are using recycled materials and trying to balance cost and conservation of
natural resources. The pizza boxes, to go boxes and paper plates served with your pizza are examples of this effort. Additionally, the use of recycled paper plates helps reduce water usage, electric usage and chemical usage required to clean traditional
dinnerware.
Speaking of electric usage, the Dyson hand dryers located in the restrooms are very energy efficient and eliminates the use of paper towels.
Installation of waterless urinals and dual flush toilets saves hundreds of thousands of gallons of water throughout the year.
Waste management is minimized by the recycling of cardboard, glass and plastic.
The hot water in the restrooms is soon to be
generated from solar panels on our roof...a work in progress!
We love our Big Planet and hope you do too!
